Nowadays the blogs seem to be replacing the Fifth estate. Indian paparazzi are more using blogs to get into the limelight rather than call a press conference and make the announcements. I am totally baffled as to why people blog. I asked one great researcher why he blogs. He 'defined' blog as a personal diary which can be accessed as long as you have access to internet(though his definition of 'definition' is pretty vague and hazy). But then, if you are really interested in penning your thoughts and ideologies, then why go online, in the days of hacking, cracking and 'phishing'?
When your credit card can be accessed and hacked using a computer, why write your thoughts, which are more valuable than mere 6 sq. inch cards?
Being a statistician, my feeling is that a personal diary is very less probable to be stolen than a blog being intruded. So why blogging?

Different people blog for different reasons. Some blog for money (loads of ads etc), some blog to voice their ideologies (...and the entire point of voicing them is to do it on a public forum so as to discuss and debate) and others just write personal blogs. I believe your question mostly addreses the last category. This one is a matter of personal choice. People avoid putting up sensitive information and whatever they do put, is there for everyone to read. I do not think the possibility of an intrusion makes a difference for its an open book.
Thats what I think.
Talking of reasons why people blog, check this link :-

Amitabh Bacchan (supposedly) writes here. What possible reasons can you comprehend for such a big name to come to blogosphere?
I think Shivam adressed most of the issues, regarding the password theft which may lead you to lose your personal dairy: Its a matter of convention, some people feel secured with e-banking and some prefer money at home, some peopl prefer snail-mail and some prefer e-mail likewise some prefer online personal dairy and others a personal notebook. With the more use of internet in daily life people have shown faith on internet. But, its always a personal preference; you may start having cash at home or use snail mail for correspondence or have a personal dairy!
